As a new Mac owner, I recently purchased Final Cut Express 4 to see if I can transition from my Sony Vegas Pro 8 setup on the PC. The Sony Vegas Pro 8 software will run the Canon MTS files natively, which is a very convenient for quickly editing files. As I was importing the files onto the Mac, I noticed that Final Cut Express 4 wasn’t recognizing the video format. It was displaying “Error: Unknown format” messages.

Solution: The workaround is to use iMovie ‘09 to import the video files from the camera. Connect the Canon camcorder to the Mac via USB cable. Open up iMovie ‘09 and go to File->Import from Camera. It should recognize the files and allow you to convert to a MOV format movie. You have the option to use the native resolution or encode to a lower resolution file. This should allow you to then open the newly encoded MOV file into Final Cut Express 4.

I recently had to help a client with a really bad case of popups and trojan horse software. McAfee and Symantec are good for catching viruses, but not so strong at cleaning up spyware and adware. Symantec Endpoint was good at detecting the threats, but not really good at cleaning them up.

So, what free programs are good right now for cleaning up spyware and adware?

1) Malwarebytes 1.4 – This is the best free anti spyware/adware program out there. I give it a 9 out of 10 rating. Actually detects and cleans most of the ones out there. Easy-to-use, fast, and runs even on a compromised computer. There is a paid upgrade if you want real-time scanning. For my client, it fixed the problems. So, highly recommended!

Publisher: http://www.malwarebytes.org/

2) Spybot Search and Destroy – I’ve been using this one for a long time for removing bad cookies and spyware. Its not as easy to use as Malwarebytes and has a tendency to be a bit laggy on a slower PC. Good additional tool to try as a second alternative, but you must make sure not to delete false positives.

Block only works if you don’t want them to see your tweets. It has no effect on your timeline.

Use the follow/unfollow trick if you notice a user in your timeline that you are not following

Report Twitter spammers to @spam

apt-get install kdebase-workspace

Seems like the dependency of kde install/update is missing the kdebase-workspace package.

To check to see if this works, restart KDE by going to

/etc/init.d/kdm stop
/etc/init.d/kdm start
